Azuchi is a town with great historical heritage, dotted with historical relics of the country representing each age back to ancient times. In Azuchi town you can find the "South of Dainaka-no-ko" site with the reproductions of ancient life-styles of Yayoi period; the keyhole-shaped "Hyotan-yama Mounded Tomb", which is the largest and the oldest site in the prefecture of Kofun period; Oiso Forest, sung of frequently in the Manyosho poems; Kannon-ji Castle, Japan's number one mountain castle of the Muromachi period; the ruins of Azuchi Castle of Azuchi-Momoyama period and many other interesting spots. Moreover, Azuchi is favored with water and green: on one side you can see, standing in a row, Mount Azuchi, importantly related to Oda Nobunaga, Mount Kinugasa, where the powerful clan Sasaki Rokkaku resided and Mount Mizukuri where Prince Shotoku supposedly carved images of Buddha. On the other side a rich rural landscape spreads including Lake Nishi-no-ko, the largest of Lake Biwa's inner lakes, one of eight famous sights in the lake area. Azuchi aims at becoming the "town of historical and green tourism", a place where rich historical resources, agriculture, a splendid natural environment and local industry can be equally found. I wish many people will come and visit our town to experience its historical and natural beauty.
